From what i think, Seymone got saved is because she got First Call-out on episode 1 lor! If not she'll be eliminated cause Mariah's photo is definitely stronger than Seymone's!!!

Now here's what is written according to wikipedia:

Some of the girls stood out on their session. Seymone looks 'pretty' in her shot, while Mariah is castigated for being too sexy. AzMarie struggles as she tries to get into character.

At the panel, Laura receives first call-out for her twisted pose as a child, while Mariah and Seymone find themselves in the bottom two. Mariah for being unmemorable, and Seymone for falling behind in the competition drastically, which Tyra calls 'beginners luck'. Ultimately, Tyra hands the last photograph to Seymone whose personality saves her, while Mariah becomes the first American girl leaving the competition.
